Modem Types Because of the way the technology developed, there are two main varieties of 56.6kbps modem. One version is the USR x2 modem, and the other is K56flex. The hardware used on each end is incompatible with the other system, and it can therefore cause connection trouble if you attempt to dial in to a USR x2 line with a K56flex modem, or vice versa. Most computer modems made now use a technology called v.90, which can attach to servers of either type. If you are having trouble connecting and have a K56flex modem, please try the K56flex number for your area.
