Pearse goes and sees the vampire. He asks him does he have everything he needs. The vampire says he is a little starved of intellectual stimulation. Pearse says maybe we can talk about your travels i.e. South America. The vampire mentions the destruction of the rainforests. Pearse says I did not think you were interested in nature. The vampire replies we are part of the same Eco system like it or not. Pearse replies, 'Eco system? Don't you mean food chain?'

Michael and his old girlfriend go to where Jacob used to work. Vaughan shows up. He tells Michael Jacob has been seeking around a hospital asking about cancer patients, thyroid cancer.

Pearse asks the vampire does he think man is capable of making himself extinct. The vampire tells Pearse the synthetic blood will end the conflict. The vampire then asks him how will he justify a policy of termination if we pose no threat. Pearse replies, You exist. The vampires says are we irredeemable. Pearse replies, You renounced humanity, it's a bit late to cry foul.

Pearse tells the vampire you crossed over - you had cancer and couldn't face death. The vampire replies are we talking about me. Pearse says I have an excellent prognosis you be glad to know. The vampire replies, what do you call excellent? How many years would that be? Pearse says you're wasting your time. The vampire says no that's the one advantage of immortality only you can waste time. Pearse says 'immorality without God - that's just another hell.'

The vampire replies, 'God! I wondered how long before you'd get around to him.' He then asks Pearse how did God reveal himself to him - was it through us. He then says, 'We drove you into the priesthood, in all your years inside have you seen any other sign of God, or is it still just us. You're in a logical trap my friend. You don't understand us so we must be evil, if there's evil then there must be a God, but if we are not evil, where does that leave you? Angie walks in and says 'anything?' Pearse replies just parables; it's time to get serious.

Vaughan talks to Michael and asks is he all right. They search Jacob's place and find a file on Michael.

They show what they found to Pearse including videos of the rainforest. Pearse says are we lead to believe our John Doe (Vampire) is an environmentalist. Vaughan says there was a conference in Rio in 1992. Pearse says check the delegates.

Kirsty is looking around the building for Jacob.

Angie goes and sees the vampire.

Kirsty finds Jacob in the car park biting the neck of some man. She screams and runs. He chases and catches her. She is woken up by the man whose neck Jacob was biting into. He goes away and Jacob appears. He tells her Jack was one of them and that Michael killed him.

Angie is about to take a sample from the vampire. He says Angie is the one who has lost her humanity. He also says she won't find any answers in the sample.

Kirsty asks Jacob, who did this to you? He tells her no one crosses over who doesn't want to. He says you don't trust me. He then says so Michael was right to kill Jack. He tells her Jack loved her. He tells Kirsty if she loved Jack she would have crossed over if asked.

Pearse asks Angie how is the patient (meaning the vampire.) She replies, still dead. She says I think he is fading. Pearse says they cannot die. She tells him the vampire has asked to see him. Pearse gets up. Angie says I wouldn't advise it, you need to be in top form to deal with their mind games.

Michael, through his old girlfriend, finds out that the vampire's name is Paul Hoyle.

Pearse says to the vampire, You wanted to speak to me. The vampire replies I want to see you. Pearse replies I am afraid that's impossible. The vampire says would you deny a last request. Pearse responds with I did not know immortals could have a last request. The vampire says do you want to take that risk. A full confession. Only you - no guards.

Michael meets Jacob. He tells him he wants to know Kirsty is okay. Jacob phones her and passes it to Michael. Kirsty tells him she knows what he did. Michael points the gun at Jacob and says what's to stop me? Jacob replies, I like Kirsty, but it's not up to me.

Pearse meets the vampire face to face. The vampire says I forget what it's like to meet myself. Pearse says I don't see any resemblance. The vampire says I was dying once, then asks Pearse to come closer.

Jacob tells Michael they don't want the captured vampire - they want the ashes of Robert March.

The vampire asks Pearse what is it he wants to know. Pearse asks why did he cross over. The vampire say's to save my soul. He tells Pearse when a human dies the soul dies too. He tells him they (the vampires) are the source of all religions, they are the afterlife, there's nothing else.

Vaughan goes to see Pearse. He says you were in there alone for 45 minutes. Pearse says do you want to check me for marks. Vaughan says you had no right. Pearse replies is that all. Vaughan asks 'was it worth it?' Pearse does not reply. Vaughan then goes and checks the recordings kept of the interviews with the vampire to find out what was discussed between Pearse and the vampire.

Pearse leaves the building. Vaughan goes and searches his office. Michael watches Angie cut the vampires neck. He then goes to the vault. Pearse enters a church. Michael takes a canister of ashes. Vaughan finds Pearse's medication. Pearse enters the confession box.

Vaughan goes o see Angie. He says it's terminal, she tells him its treatable. Vaughan replies, but he is not taking the medication. She says there are side effects, he wants to finish the case. Vaughan says may be he doesn't think he will need it. Angie says he has no choice. Vaughan replies I don't know he would agree with you on that one. He then gives her the recording of Pearse and the vampire.

Michael meets his old girlfriend. He shows her the canister and tells her he needs her help. She says no. She tells him he can stay at her place and leaves.

Angie listens to the recording. She hears Pearse say what could I be losing if I crossed over. She stops the tape and tells Vaughan of course they would like to headhunt him, didn't it occur to him Pearse might be using that. He has been fighting them longer than us both together. Vaughan says and now he's fighting cancer. Why hasn't he clued us in, if he is getting all these amazing insights. It would be nice if he shared them around a bit.

Vaughan and Angie go and see Pearse. He says 'found anything to impeach me on?' He tells them it was a mish mash of truth, lies and baiting. Angie replies the vampire mentions poison and you picked him up on it. Pearse stares at Vaughan. Angie says I told him I had to (meaning Pearse's condition). Pearse says fine, the vampire was talking about my cancer, as I said a typical wind up. Angie says why use that word. Pearse replies what's your point. Angie says I think he was talking about himself. Pearse replies so! Angie says he was a victim of radiation poisoning, I think we should be looking at nuclear industries not just hospitals.

Kirsty asks Jacob what's it like not being able to see yourself; he says incredible. She tells him she wants to go with him when he sees Michael.

Angie and Vaughan investigate what the Vampire was up to. They find out he was a nuclear scientist. The woman they are talking to tells them someone else had been around asking questions. It was Michael's old girlfriend. They pick her up and take her back to the office.

They tell Pearse about Paul Hoyle (the vampire), they tell Pearse the vampires want to start a nuclear winter. Angie says synthetic blood is not about peace but about war. Pearse talks to Michael's old girlfriend. He tells her they want to help Michael just as much as she does. Pearse says Michael hasn't told you everything. He tells her Paul Hoyle the man she has been investigating is involved in something worse than nuclear pollution, and can she afford to keep silent. She asks what is it? Pearse tells her you have to have faith. She replies, I know Michael I don't know you. She then says it's a chemical.

Angie, Vaughan and the woman go into the observation part of the chamber. Pearse is inside with the vampire. He tells her this is Paul Hoyle the man she has been researching, the man who died 5yrs ago. Pearse then says yes Paul we know all about your contribution to the cause. The vampire looks at Pearse and says jumping ships twice is never a good idea. Pearse says thanks for the interest but I am already spoken for and shoots him in the heart.

Michael meets Jacob. Angie and Vaughan are watching. Michael tells Kirsty Jack was going to come after her. She replies maybe I wanted him to. Pearse shows up. He tells Michael that the vampires do want final peace. That's why they have been picking scientists for the last 10yrs, like the US did with the Manhattan project. They want to take over then exterminate us.

Jacob says Michael has his own fantasies to worry about and goes to bite Kirsty's neck. Michael says stop and puts the canister down. Jacob opens the canister and puts ash on to the ground; he then cuts his wrist and drips blood on to of it. Vaughan and Angie shoot Jacob. From the spilt ashes appears Jack, not Robert. He grabs Kirsty and says to her get a life then jumps off the bridge.

Vaughan, Angie and the rest of the squad show up. Pearse says Jack is not important we have learnt how they regenerate. They have their extermination programme; it's time we follow suit. Vaughan grabs Michael. Pearse says leave him. Vaughan says are you going to trust him again. He then says, looking at Michael, are you in or out. Vaughan then points to Kirsty and says what about her.

Looking at Kirsty he then nods towards the river Jack jumped in and says it was good advice. He then nods towards Michael and says to her let him go.

Angie puts the canister back. Pearse looks in the mirror and takes his medication.

Michael tells Kirsty she can go. She slaps him and says why did you do it.

As he stops along a street Jack shows up and says to Michael lets keep in touch.
