Writing to Philip

So many people have written us asking about writing to Philip, we thought a few tips and hints might be useful.

Mum always said to make a good first impression, so do use Spellcheck if you know your spelling is kind of rough.(g)

It's always courteous to send a SASE - Self Addressed Stamped Envelope. If you're mailing within the country he's in - just use the appropriate postage for your country. If you're writing to him from the U.S. or other country, it's very helpful to include International Reply Coupons. You get these at the Post Office, and he can use them just like postage to reply.

Be patient! It won't always be possible for Philip to make a personal reply, no matter how much he might like to answer every letter. He will get your mail though, and does appreciate his fans.

PLEASE, DO NOT SCAN AND POST HIS MAIL TO YOU ON YOUR WEBSITE. Stop and think how you would feel if you wrote to someone, and they published your personal mail on the web. I realize getting a reply from someone you admire so much is really great, and you want to share it with the world, but it's better to just share it with your friends or by private email. Some fans have scanned and posted letters he's written to them, and this has disturbed him very much.

Finally, try not to 'gush' too much! (I know, I know, it's hard!) Put yourself in his shoes - admiring the man's work is one thing but consider how many letters he gets that say 'I think you've got the cutest eyes'. You might stand a better chance of a reply if your letter is intelligent, astute and to the point. First and foremost we admire him because he's an actor - don't forget that.

    Thank you!!
